There were Crocodiles in my dream

What dose this dream really mean?

Alligator and Crocodile Dreams
Alligators and crocodiles are comfortable on land and in water. They are fierce, carnivorous, and move with speed and stealth. They possess great power and reach a formidable size. Their jaws are so powerful they can eat their prey in one bone-crushing bite.

When dreaming of alligators or crocodiles, it’s important to keep in mind that they are water creatures as well as land creatures.

Water represents the emotions, and both the alligator and the crocodile are at home in the water, where they remain hidden, yet aware of everything in their environment.

To dream of alligators or crocodiles may mean that there is something of great power lurking just below the surface of your unconscious mind. They may represent a “hidden danger,” or manipulation and deception (think of crocodile tears).

Dreaming of alligators or crocodiles may also be messages of deep spiritual initiation. They have existed, relatively unchanged, for over 200 million years, so they are connected to a very ancient, primal, energy. Because of their ability to eat their food in one bite, they are also symbolic of a journey to the underworld, and initiation. However, they take a long time to digest their food, so this may be a message to take more time in “digesting” something that you are working through.

They are also protective as well as fearsome. Both alligators and crocodiles are good mothers. They help the eggs to hatch, then gently carry them to the water. The Egyptian goddess, Tawret, had the tail of a crocodile, and frightened spirits who may mean to harm a pregnant woman or child. She also helped spirits “re-birth” into the afterlife.

The ancient Egyptians recognized the power of the crocodile, and saw them as symbols of fertility and power. Sobek, the Egyptian god of the Nile, was depicted as a man with the head of a crocodile. It was believed that he created the world, and was a protector of the pharaoh’s army.

:::[Sobek (Sebek) Egyptian god :He who causes to be fertile

Symbols: Crocodiles

Depiction: The male deity Sobek was depicted as a crocodile or as a man with the head of a crocodile.

Mythology: As told in the Book of the Dead, Horus the Elder enlisted the help of Sobek to kill his uncle Seth. Sobek helped Horus on another occasion when he rescued Horus’ four sons from the waters of Nun. Sobek was the god of crocodiles. Ancient Egyptians, who lived in cities that depended on water, worshipped him to placate the crocodiles. For instance, the people of Crocodilopolis (Arsinoe) would husband crocodiles in pools and adorn them with jewels. The importance of crocodiles to ancient Egyptian culture is demonstrated by the numerous mummified crocs that have been found in tombs.]::::::

To see a wild alligator or a crocodile in your dream, foretells a new beginning or changes in your waking life, this dream can also indicate danger in some way. If you do not kill the alligator then this dream may not be favorable, this is a dream of caution.
The alligator or crocodile within your dream can also highlight your intuition, your spiritual insights and spiritual steps that you need to take in the forthcoming future. As mentioned before, because of its association with religion the alligator can mean that negative aspects signify a danger which will shortly come into your life.

No one can quite understand the connections between dreams and danger, so I will try to explain this in the interpretation of the bullet points below. According to 1930s dream dictionaries a dream of seeing an alligator or crocodile general reflects how you feel inside about others. Generally the alligator or crocodile is consistently related to the soul. Spiritually the dream represents a coming together of power and intelligence.

Other dream interpretations (post 1920s ) within old dream dictionaries include the meaning as follows:

If the attention in your dream is trying to kill or harm the alligator in a dream then you are expected to consider that this is associated with your intelligence.

To dream of shooting an alligator indicates the need to take Intellectual sheets. We may be pushing ourselves to heart.

Dreaming of swimming with an alligator connects us with our need for basic emotional or physical material needs.
To be swimming with more than one alligator or crocodile generally signifies that one may be shafted by hope and faith.

As with many other interpretations of reptiles this dream represents the ultimate feminine wisdom and indistinctly feelings as well as fertility.
The alligator can also signify the symbol of the great mother. Have you had confusion in a male or female relationship?

To kill the alligator in your dream means that you hold angry feelings inside of you.

If the alligator was deformed than this indicates your performance need to develop a masculine traits – you need good judgment how move forward in a work situation. Thinking and planning is important in your life and you may soon become obsessed with seeking answers to difficult questions in order to understand a greater awareness and the ease of life.

Dreams of seeing an alligator in a zoo (or in captivity) means that you have access to the particular characteristics which make you unique. It is important to take' energy released over the next two months and use this to your advantage.

There may be some conflict between the masculine attributes and the female ones, but is important to maintain some kind of balance between the two. Principally the dream is often connected to our feelings inside. As time passes we recognize familiar aspects of what this means and it is important to develop your personality coupled with strong sense of family values.

Independence is important to you and this dream shows that it is time to claim this back. If you visit a jungle then this dream signifies that there is a new beginning on the horizon. If you dream that the alligator was tamed then it shows that you have acquired influence and lots of power.

The bible says that an alligator is king over the children of pride, if you decide not to attack the animal then seeing this creature is associated with the capability to survive in difficult situations. In a negative way, the crocodile demonstrates wasted potential. Think of them as a human which is associated with triggering control issues. The crocodile or alligator is true to its nature and there's an element of trying to work towards goals. If the crocodile is on a lake and the dream seems beautiful, this means that you will have love in your life. You may need to understand social instincts in order to secure that your desire. The main negative potential is associated with any type of attack.

To be bitten by this animal denotes that you need to make sure that you stop worrying as things will sort it out. Someone that is in your circle of friends or family is not acting in a correct manner. You will recognise that the person is an enemy and he/or she seeks to trick you into thinking that you are a friend.

To have this dream also means that this releases the power in us called Jungian, an archetype known as the 'Shadow.' This is a dark power is associated with enemies and conspiracies. This shadow casts himself or herself as the heroic victim (martyr) of dark and stupendous forces. By any and all means. The shadow inside us is dangerous. Have you been having bad thoughts? Are you struggling to come to terms with a situation?

Finally, it is important to consider the work of Freud in regards to this dream interpretation as this dream signifies a warning. Freud wrote a book called "truth is what works" which looked at the views on the psychology of dreams. The facts are obvious to the world by his interpretation of dreams.

First of all, Freud pointed out a constant connection between some part of every dream and some detail of the dreamer's life during the previous waking state. This positively establishes a relation between sleeping states and waking states and disposes of the widely prevalent view that dreams are purely nonsensical phenomena coming from nowhere and leading nowhere. In regards to this dream, it signifies that you have been having some worrying times recently.

Many of our dream visions are symbolical, which causes us to consider them as absurd and unintelligible; the universality of those symbols, however, makes them very transparent to the trained observer. It is important to also look up the other parts of your dream. What happened? Do not worry too much about the meaning of this dream; you just need to be aware of hidden dangers.

Dreaming of alligators or crocodiles may be drawing your attention to an aspect of yourself that you’ve been afraid to face. Start with asking yourself if you were feeling frightened in your dream, neutral, or empowered.

It’s important to understand your own personal connection to these creatures when doing a dream interpretation. If you were frightened by one as a child, your perspective will be much different from someone who was fascinated with them.

When an alligator or crocodile appears in your dream, you can be sure that they have something important to share; whether it’s facing a personal fear, confronting a difficult situation, or accepting that you are connected to a tremendous source of power.
